Cantors lead and support the congregation in song at weekend and holy day liturgies that are not served by a musical group of singers and instrumentalists. They also may serve the parish family by leading sung prayer at weddings, funerals, and prayer services.
These singers are trained as psalmists and general leaders of the community’s sung prayer. As psalmists, they proclaim the Word of God in the psalm after the first reading, which is usually sung from the ambo instead of from the cantor stand.
Cantors usually serve once or twice a month, more often if there are extra liturgies.
If you would like more information on being a cantor, contact Lisa Roush, , (785) 843-0109 (ext 326).

St. John Choir is a four-part vocal ensemble (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) who enhances and supports the music during the 8:30am Sunday Mass. The bulk of our repertoire could be described as traditional, though we are not bound to music from any particular time period.
There are currently about 12 members in the choir, but we’re always open to additional singers – whether for year-round involvement, or perhaps joining us for Christmas or Easter seasons. Regular rehearsal times are Wednesdays from 7-8:30pm in the choir loft.
For more information, contact Lisa Roush, , (785) 843-0109 (ext 326).

The Jubilate choir leads the music for the 5pm Sunday Mass. Many of the songs are sung in a contemporary style, incorporating (when possible) piano, bass, drums, guitar and other instruments, as well as a variety of voices. You might recognize some songs from the radio today, and others you may have listened to from your youth.
The choir meets at 3:30pm on Sundays before Mass to rehearse in the church. If you sing or play any kind of instrument and are interested in joining the Jubilate Choir, come on by for a Sunday rehearsal and introduce yourself ~ we’d love to have you join us!
