RCIA

The Catechumenate or Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process through which adults become full members of the Roman Catholic Church. The process respects the ongoing experience of conversion in each person’s life. The RCIA is designed to provide the time, support and knowledge needed to make a free and informed decision concerning membership in the Catholic Church. Specifically, those who have not been baptized or who have been baptized in another Christian denomination are welcome to participate in the RCIA. The process could also be helpful for baptized Catholics who have not been active members of the church for an extended period of time. Ordinarily participation in the Catechumenate lasts between one to two years, depending on the needs of each person. The culmination of the RCIA process takes place at the Easter Vigil where new members are welcomed into the Church through the Sacrament of Baptism or their Profession of Faith as Roman Catholics. The initial stage of the RCIA is called Inquiry. After an initial meeting with the RCIA director, those who have an interest in learning more about the Catholic faith meet in an informal communal setting. These Inquiry gatherings take place throughout the year and typically run between six and eight weeks. Anyone interested in learning more about the RCIA and/or participating in the Inquiry meetings is invited to call Sister Mary Beth Minges at the parish office, 785-843-0109 or .

Atrium [Catechesis of the Good Shepherd]

The Atrium - more than anything else - is a place of prayer created and built especially for the child, ages 3 to 12 in appropriate age groups. A small altar, a sacristy cabinet, a baptismal font, a prayer corner. There are shelves with small figures of Jesus, Mary, Gabriel, and Joseph...for moving and acting the life of Jesus. The children have exercises with scripture, gestures, and the traditions of the church. The Atrium is a place for children to nourish their relationship with God and encourage it to grow. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is also the primary way for non-Catholic children to prepare for initiation. Contact: Marilee Quinn, Director.
