Volunteer Opportunities
Calling Adults who are “Young at Heart”
Are you interested in serving the youth of our parish? Join our team!
We need folks to volunteer/teach/mentor teens on Wednesday evenings, Sunday evenings, overnight retreats and special events. Commitments are flexible, and we would love to have you.
Our next volunteer training will take place on August 25, beginning with Mass in the Church at 8:00 a.m., and then a training from 8:30–12:00 p.m. over in the Youth House (1301 Vermont Street).
For more information, send an email to Jen Meitl Conrad at or check out the “volunteer” tab on our website: saint-johns.net/youth/.
Landscaping Volunteers
We have had the help of some wonderful volunteers to maintain the grounds and gardens around our convent, school and church campus, making a beautiful environment for parishioners as well as visitors for weddings, baptismal services, funerals, and the many festivals.
To continue this atmosphere, we need your help! Volunteers are needed for:
Weeding the gardens, the space between sheds, around the Rummage House and Birthright-Centro Hispano House.
Trimming around the school, convent, and church with an electric trimmer.
Watering the gardens.
Help putting mulch down (once a season).
To volunteer your help with any of these tasks, you can call Hope Freund at (785) 842-9773 or email her at . Alternatively, sign-up sheets can also be found at the church entrances and at the Simon Parish Center.
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated by Fr. John, Sr. Susan, and Sr. Marcella!
Furniture (and Elbow Grease) Needed
St. John recently purchased a house located at 1247 Kentucky. The house is completely empty, and we need your help to furnish it. If you have any lightly used pieces of furniture to donate, we can make use of it!
Once the house is furnished and restored a bit, it will be available for use as a meeting space.
Also, volunteers are needed to clean up the yard. A lot of work needs to be done on the inside and outside of the house. Can you give 1-2 hours of your time? Do you enjoy yard work?
Call Fr. John at (785) 843-0109 or and he will give you a task to help beautify our new piece of property.
