Fr. Mike’s Parish Retreat

Father Michael Scully formerly served as pastor of St. John Church. He has spent many of his years of ministry working with youth as a religion teacher, high school administrator, youth pastor, and parish pastor. In talks and retreats for high school and college youth, his presentation, “Rock Music and Leadership,” has been presented to over 30,000 young people. He has written several books, has given many parish retreats and recollection days, and conducted many Adult Faith Formation classes. Father Mike Scully is currently serving as Eastern Vocation Director for the Capuchin Franciscan Province of Mid-America.

The goal of the spiritual life is to make God a true force in our lives. We are required to make a real effort in order to accomplish it. In particular, we have to choose to follow God by re-writing our maps of reality to include God more in our lives. Christians choose Jesus Christ to be their guide as they bring about God’s presence.

As we speak of the presence of God, the major problem we encounter is selfishness. We must discover that the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives and that even though we are “wounded people,” the grace of God will never let us down.
