Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick: An Introduction by Fr. Curtis

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is for those whose physical health is seriously impaired due to sickness, injury, or old age. It is an opportunity to pray for God’s comfort and healing. Through the prayers, laying on of hands, and anointing with the Oil of the Sick, the recipient of this sacrament is assured of God’s love, presence, and power—particularly during the difficult time of ill health. Christ is not merely a “fair-weather friend” who leaves when life becomes troubled. He knows well what it means to suffer physical pain and in this Sacrament of Anointing, he makes his healing presence known.
