Baptism: An Introduction by Fr. Curtis
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first Sacrament one receives and thus is the gateway to the other Sacraments. In Baptism one dies with Christ and rises with Christ. Through baptism, the person is cleansed of Original Sin and any personal sin; is reborn as a child of God; and is incorporated as a member of the Catholic Church. With a three-fold immersion or pouring with water, the person is baptized “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” The Sacrament of Baptism is received only once in life. As a member of the Church they are then called to fulfill the mission and service that Christ calls them to in accord with their particular vocation.
