Lois Mersmann
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Lois’ relationship with St. John parish began 33 years ago when she and her husband, Fred, moved to Lawrence. Prior to joining the parish staff, she volunteered in the Religious Education program while her children attended classes and activities. She found herself getting more immersed in the R.E. program so you can imagine how happy she was to become a member of the parish staff in 2003. Lois appreciates the caring, Christian atmosphere in which she works.
She assists with a variety of Religious Education programs: Sunday morning classes, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Atrium), Wednesday night Middle School Youth Night, Vacation Bible School and sacramental preparation. She works with the church database and serves as the parish VIRTUS Coordinator.
Other bits of information about Lois are that she was born in Lawrence and grew up on a dairy farm south of Eudora. She attended Eudora schools and Emporia State University. Fred and Lois celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary early in November 2011. They have three adult children and three grandchildren. Julie and her husband, Darrin, live in Omaha, NE with their three children. Emily and her husband, Josh, and Dennis and his wife, Alaide, live in Lawrence. Lois enjoys reading, supporting her grandchildren in their activities and spending time with family.
